What's up with the drop in stock prices?
Fri Jan 24, 2014
I saw an interview with Warren Buffet where he suggested that part of the reason corporations have been reporting such high earnings is that they are failing to properly report their losses....in other words, the market has been reacting to incomplete...or maybe even false...information.
All-cash offers crushing first-time homebuyers
Fri Jan 24, 2014
If they pay cash, they aren't putting 30k down on a 100k home. I think 7% is an optimistic figure for appreciation.
Fetus of Texas woman on life support 'distinctly abnormal,' family lawyers say
Wed Jan 22, 2014
Don't believe everything you are told. If she were really brain dead, with no activity in the base brain, I don't believe the fetus could be saved. I think she's being kept on life support...which means there is some life there to support.
Penny deserves a better boyfriend on 'Big Bang Theory'
Fri Jan 10, 2014
Two things. I think it is interesting/useful to discuss the actions of fictional people. It is a good examination of motivations that might come in handy at another time. For example, Leonard was not a jerk to turn down Penny's marriage proposal. Any proposal that is couched in such "wel …
Fla. teen cleared of cyberbullying: I didn't do 'anything wrong'

In reply to: Mephisto-1201858 #573 Oh my goodness do you see what you just did there? You became them. More hate isn't the answer.
'Do they want me to die in this airport?' Chaos in Tacloban as 3,000 try to board two planes
Tue Nov 12, 2013
Who is "they"? Whenever there is a catastrophe I hear about "they". They don't come fast enough. They weren't prepared enough.
Wal-Mart joins the Thanksgiving rush
Mon Nov 11, 2013
It's hard to believe but in the 1960s you would not have found a restaurant open on Christmas except for the Chinese restaurants. I don't know about Thanksgiving (we never ate out on Thanksgiving) but I do remember one Christmas when my mother was rushed to the hospital and my dad looked everywhere …
Marriage as a 'luxury good': The class divide in who gets married and divorced
Fri Oct 25, 2013
I live in Massachusetts and I have noticed that young people who don't make a whole lot of money are better off if they remain unmarried when they have children. A married couple is responsible to pay for the family insurance plan at work. If you are unmarried, the costs of health care are usu …
Is your doctor spying on your tweets? Social media raises medical privacy questions
Mon Oct 21, 2013
In reply to: MoreJustice #13It isn't so much a moral referendum on a person's lifestyle. Denying a liver to someone who is suffering from alcoholism or any other liver destroying disease makes the liver available to someone else. It's not "you have hepatitis so you aren't worthy." It's "You ha …
Thousands get health insurance cancellation notices
Fri Oct 18, 2013
We should contact our legislators and ask that assets as well as income be considered when determining a person's eligibility for subsidies. If you own 10 rental homes and properly document your expenses, you can be a millionaire with no reportable income....and get free health care. That need …
